Can I get comprehensive insurance for a car over 10 years old?
Some insurers do offer comprehensive coverage for cars 10-15 years old, but many will only offer Third Party Fire & Theft (TPFT) or Third Party Only (TPO). Cars over 15 years typically get TPO only.
Do I need vehicle inspection for old car insurance?
Yes — most insurers require a B5 or B7 PUSPAKOM inspection for cars over 10-15 years. The inspection checks roadworthiness, brakes, lights, and structural integrity.
Is insurance more expensive for old cars?
Surprisingly, older cars can have similar or higher premiums than newer ones due to higher risk of breakdown and difficulty sourcing parts. However, TPO/TPFT coverage is much cheaper than comprehensive.
What insurance is best for a car over 15 years?
Third Party Only (TPO) is usually the only option. It covers damage you cause to others but NOT damage to your own car. Some insurers may offer TPFT.
Can I insure a classic car in Malaysia?
Yes, some insurers like Allianz and Zurich offer classic/vintage car insurance with agreed value coverage. This is separate from standard car insurance.
Should I still get add-ons for an old car?
Windscreen cover is still worth it for old cars — replacement glass costs are similar regardless of car age. Flood cover may be less worthwhile if the car value is low.
